Where Different Paint Sheens are Used

Having some information about paint is important if you are considering buying paint. Paint sheens are of different varieties. The different varieties of paint sheens are flat, satin, eggshell, gloss, and semi-gloss. It does not mean a higher paint sheen is suitable to use on all areas because it is durable. Considering the space you want to paint is important when choosing a paint sheen to use. Flat sheen is the best variety of sheen to use if you want to paint the ceilings. You should use the eggshell variety of paint sheen on walls. Semi-gloss sheen is suited for doors and trim. When painting the interiors of your house you should also use different varieties of sheens for different areas. The body of the house is best suited by the satin sheen. Also, the exteriors areas of the doors and trim are best suited by the satin sheen.

You should be careful when choosing the variety of paint sheen to use for different areas. Using the wrong variety of paint sheen on the wrong areas will be the consequences of failing to take precautionary measures. Ceilings are best suited by flat or matte paint. However, it is not a wonder to find some painters recommending that you use flat paint on low traffic areas. If I were you, I would not use flat paint on any other area of the house apart from the ceiling.

Eggshell is the most recommended paint sheen for the interior parts of the wall. The gloss found in eggshell paint is not too high and that is why it is preferred for interior walls. Eggshell sheen is versatile hence you can also use it on the walls of your kitchen and bathroom. You should choose satin if you want to use a variety of sheen that is slightly brighter than eggshell. If you want your colors to appear shiny you should use satin because it is more glossy than eggshell. Satin is superior to eggshell in that it is a little more durable and washable.

If you want to paint a baseboard, window casements or doors and trim, the best paint sheen to use is semi-gloss. Semi-gloss sheen is superior to the sheens mentioned earlier in that it is more durable and washable. Semi-gloss paint is durable and washable due to its high enamel properties. Semi-gloss paint is the best-suited variety of sheen for kitchens and bathrooms because it is durable and washable. Doors and trims are best suited by the high gloss sheen however the sheen does not go well with woodwork and drywall. However, a qualified painter can guide you on the variety of sheen to use if you are having troubles deciding.
